Google Tools and Tracking

Google provide a number of tools which we use to help maintain, monitor and improve the performance of our clients' websites. 

An additional bonus in regularly using these tools is that it signals to Google that your website is being actively managed and that you are trying to conform to Google's rules and requirements.

Google Webmaster Tools

At the start of the optimisation process we setup Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) on your website.  This often involves providing verification code for your developer to install on the site.  We then use GWT each month to check and diagnose any problems that Google has highlighted.  This could be a range of things from duplicate content to incorrect links or new code errors.  Where possible we will fix the problems ourselves, or where it is a development issue we will pass on to your developer.

Google SiteMap

Most websites already have a sitemap installed to help users with navigation, but we also setup and install a Google SiteMap using Google Webmaster Tools.  This helps ensure that Google crawls all the pages on your website and has the most up to date snapshot of your website structure and content.  Each month we update the Google SiteMap and check it to ensure that it is being crawled correctly by Google so that any new content on your site can immediately contribute to your performance.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is an essential tool for tracking progress, reviewing performance and making business decisions around your website.  At the start of Search Engine Marketing we help to setup Google Analytics for clients, or check existing accounts to see that they are installed correctly.

We then report on a quarterly basis on indicators such as sources of traffic, brand versus non brand traffic, location of visitors and other factors.  This information can help a client see what results they are getting from paid advertising and directories, and we often see results coming from our monthly article marketing efforts.  For clients who want more analysis, such as those with eCommerce sites, we can provide advanced reporting using conversion tracking and funnels to help clients adjust and improve the sales performance of their site.
