Google Adwords

Google Adwords advertising uses a system called pay per click (PPC) whereby you only pay each time a visitor clicks on the link through to your website landing page. 

For certain clients in particular situations we recommend Google Adwords to compliment the search engine optimisation work we are doing for them.

Google Adwords can be particularly effective when:

  • you have a new website that may take 6-12 months or more to achieve visibility in the organic results in a competitive market
  • you want to test a new market for interest
  • you want to run a special promotion for a limited time

There is ongoing debate as to the value of Google Adwords pay per click advertising as opposed to search engine optimisation and marketing.  In some cases if you are up against major players with bigger budgets then it may be difficult to compete (although we always look for niches to target).  Certain products or services that are higher value or rely on trust may get fewer clicks because web users prefer to trust the organic search results as opposed to the advertising listings.  In most cases though an Adwords campaign can boost your traffic and give you broader coverage.  This supports other search engine marketing efforts. 

A couple of the benefits of Google Adwords advertising are:

  • you can get immediate traffic to your site
  • you can control budget
  • you can control the timeframe you want to run the campaign
  • you can track conversions
  • within three months you can have a reasonable idea of how well it is working

Google Adwords is an advertising service anyone can use and often we are approached by people who have tried their own campaign for a month or two and have realised they are not doing it properly, and are wasting their own time and money.  In order to get maximum benefit it's best to use an SEO professional with Google AdWords Qualified Certification (GAQC).  We have two qualified specialists on our team managing campaigns for clients targeting international markets as well as NZ.

Key steps in our Google Adwords advertising service include:

  1. Clarifying objectives, target markets and budgets - we interview you then use Google Adwords tools to plan with you which keywords to target, what budget to allocate where, and possible traffic from each campaign.  Part of this process also includes highlighting 'negative keywords' which we want to ensure your ads do not show for so you don't waste budget on non-targeted visitors.
  2. Implementing the Campaign - your Google Qualified Adwords professional will set the campaign up and we'll send you advertising copy to edit and confirm prior to launching the campaign.  Where possible we can also advise your developer on linking your Adwords with your Google Analytics for improved tracking.
  3. Daily Campaign Management - each working day your Google Qualified Adwords professional will login to your account to review and modify it.  This may sometimes involve pausing non-performing ads and shifting more budget to those with better conversion.  Normally after about four weeks Google starts to provide more useful data based on your specific campaign that can be used to try new ads and make more improvements.


With our Google Adwords advertising service there is an initial cost for setting up the campaign, and then the monthly cost is split between our management fee and the budget Google will take directly from your credit card normally once or twice a month.
